The team that visited us today were from an international charity and are directly involved in the reselling of electrical items.
While this is quite straight forward, there are potentially more things to consider than when inspecting and testing in, for example, an office. The main thing is the item has already had a life in someone’s home… and you don’t know the history of the item. Maybe the previous owner was an enthusiastic ‘DIYer’ and has attempted an improvement on the item. Maybe the item has been languishing in the shed for the last 5 years. Maybe the item predates all of the latest safety standards. Maybe the item is perfect.
With a failure rate of around 50% just from the Formal Visual Inspection, these guys had clearly become very observant and could spot the majority of physical faults on appliances. They had followed the process so many times it had become second nature to them.
I wish more people would take the time to perform a thorough Formal Visual Inspection… instead of a cursory glance.
Well done guys, keep up the good work.
