‘Portable Appliance Testing Testing’…?

‘Portable Appliance Testing Testing’. Why is the name ‘PAT Testing’ in inverted commas? Well, the name ‘PAT Testing’ is actually made up. The process of checking the safety of electrical equipment in the workplace has always been covered by the IET Code of Practice for In-service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment.

‘PAT Testing’ actually stands for ‘Portable Appliance Testing Testing’ and obviously doesn’t make sense and shouldn’t be used. However, the name won’t just disappear overnight, so we will still use it for now but in inverted commas. Hopefully, it will gradually disappear.
